This time, we’d like to introduce “Sock Day,” a celebration familiar to many people in Japan.

The Origin and Background of “Sock Day”

Have you ever heard of “Sock Day”? In Japan, it is celebrated every year on November 11. The day was established in 1993 (Heisei 5) by the Japan Sock Association, now known as the Japan Hosiery Industry Association. It was chosen because the numbers “1” and “1” lined up side by side (11/11) resemble a pair of socks placed together.

In Japan, Western-style clothing became popular during the Meiji era, which led to a growing demand for socks along with shoes. After World War II, the town of Koryo in Nara Prefecture developed into one of the country’s major sock-producing regions. Even today, Nara — where our company is located — is known as Japan’s leading center for sock production.

Sock Day aims to:

1. Raise awareness of domestic sock manufacturers,
   

2. Promote the quality and fashion appeal of socks, and
   

3. Encourage people to take good care of their socks and choose high-quality ones.

The History of Sock Day at Tatsumi Textile Industry

Our company was founded in 1928. Originally a yarn-spinning factory, we began producing socks when we established our new factory in Nara, and have been making socks for over 60 years. Today, we sell our products directly to customers online. Every year, TATSUMI TEXTILE Co.,Ltd. holds a three-day “Sock Festival” from November 9 (Sunday) to November 11 (Tuesday), offering socks at special festival prices.
