What is St. Patrick's Day?

March 17th, the day when the world is enveloped in green every year, marks the anniversary of the death of St. Patrick, the patron saint who spread Christianity in Ireland.

Outside of Ireland, major U.S. cities with a large Irish immigrant population, such as San Francisco and New York, also celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Every year, over 100,000 participants dress in green outfits and accessories and parade through the streets to celebrate this holiday.

In Japan, parades are also held in Omotesando and Yokohama, featuring marching bands and dancers. Many Irish-related organizations based in various parts of Japan entertain thousands of spectators.

Why are GUTS-MAN Socks Green?

St. Patrick's Day is celebrated by many people around the world. Just like St. Patrick's Day, the brand color of GUTS-MAN is also green.

Going back to 1997, the story of GUTS-MAN begins with a phone call to the company president.

At that time, someone had seen a company website created by the president and called in with a question: "Do you make durable socks that won’t develop holes?"

When asked about their occupation, the caller revealed they were active-duty members of the Japan Self-Defense Forces stationed at the Itami Base.

Upon further discussion, the caller explained: "We march in formation with heavy gear for 'marching' training. The official government-issued socks, even when worn in double layers, develop holes quickly, causing blisters and even bleeding on my feet. They’re simply not durable enough.I was the only one to drop out of the last march. I can’t afford to fail this time. I need tough socks that won’t tear."

And so, GUTS-MAN was born from the voice of one Self-Defense Forces member.

Early on in sales, we received requests for a specific color, OD (Olive Drab), and we began creating prototypes in response to those requests.

This OD (Olive Drab) color is used by military forces around the world.

This color is created by mixing olive green with a dark grayish-brown hue.

Because this process is simple, it is commonly used in military uniforms, vehicle paint, and other military equipment.

The other color, Black, is a shade used by the Navy and Air Force.
